“There’s more to life than making it go faster.” Wayne Dyer

Are we really saving time?
Are we really saving time?

I often find myself feeling immensely grateful, whenever I use my washing machine. I think back to my early childhood, with mum’s labour-intensive twin tub – and even my Grannie having to wash for a family of 6 with even fewer facilities.   I feel grateful for the “time it saves me”, just loading it up, pressing a few buttons and forgetting about it.   The irony is that my Grannie probably had more spare time than me.

With every labour-saving device we have invented, we have invented a dozen new ways of filling that spare time.

We have created a society where people grump, if you don’t reply to an email within hours, rather than days or weeks for the old-fashioned snail mail. We expect our news to come and go by the second, rather than waiting for the newspaper. Trends come and go within a week. Everything we do is faster, more intense and probably more stressful.

The thing with all this is that we’re missing out on experiencing life. Even the simple act of drinking a cup of tea is getting lost, as we gulp our cuppa, whilst multi-thinking about the next 20 things we’re going to be doing. How often do we get to the bottom of the cup, without even remembering drinking it?

This leads to a lack of peace of mind and eventually dis-ease and unhappiness.

How about putting the brakes on and going back to a few moments of “present moment awareness”?

Time for a cuppa?
Time for a cuppa?

The next time you drink a cup of tea or water, how about giving it your full attention? Really experiencing it through all your senses? You might be amazed how quickly this calms your chattering mind and helps you relax – and it doesn’t even cost you anything.

How about sharing your experience with this in the Facebook group? http://www.thetransformationclub.com/the-sofa/

Wishing you sunshine and laughter,

Namaste,

Clare
