Do You Need A Push To Get Moving?

Clare Josa, Research & Training Director

Today’s Daily Sunshine is all about how it’s easier to make changes once you’re already in motion – and how you can get started.

“It doesn’t take much movement at all – and already you’re moving.”

We all know that getting started on changing something, or a new project, can seem overwhelming.

Sometimes the barriers to getting started make the whole thing grow in its apparent difficulty and taking that first step can seem impossible.

Where to start?

But how much easier would it be, if you knew that it doesn’t really matter what that first step is?

Hi %%FIRST_NAME%%! You get to read the rest of this article because you are a Silver or Gold member.

I vividly remember from my engineering days that the effort it takes to get something moving is greater than the effort required to continue to move something that’s already in motion. (Static inertia, for those who want to know more).

And making change in our lives is the same.

Whilst the project or shift is simply theoretical and “in our heads”, then the force needed to get things moving seems great.

But once we have taken the first step on the journey, movement becomes easier and the effort reduces.

Taking inspired action, to get things moving, can transform things.

So if you have a change you want to make or a project you wish to start, my invitation to you today is:

Make a start. Right now, if you can. Take a “best guess” at the first action. But it doesn’t matter if it’s not perfect. The main thing is that you’re moving and everything else gets easier from then!

If you could take the first step on something important to you today, what would it be?
