Are You Suffering From The 21st Century Epidemic?

Clare Josa, Research & Training Director

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re drowning? Drowning under ‘too much to do’? Drowning under ‘too much to remember’? Drowning under ‘which advice to believe’?
Is there a solution? Or is it just an inevitable consequence of modern life?

In these times of super fast and near-instant everything, our life at home has speeded up to inhuman levels. If you were to run minute by minute through your schedule on a typical day, how many minutes of quality time are there?

By quality time I’m talking time where you actually get to connect with someone (yourself included), to slow down, to enjoy the moment.

I’m not talking about eating dinner with your ‘significant other’, whilst talking about ‘to do’ lists or chatting to the kids behind you, while you drive them somewhere. I’m talking about truly being present.

For so many of us, we can go days, weeks or even longer, without this.

Doesn’t it seem a bit crazy?

What exactly is it that is so important that it drowns out our time to connect and ‘be’?

What is it that is driving us to live so fast that overwhelm becomes the inevitable consequence? Is stress simply something we have to learn to accept, in these busy times?

I’m curious.

I’m going to be writing about various aspects of this over the coming weeks and I’d love to hear your views on this 21st century epidemic.
