How To Cut Stress, Worry And Anxiety In Under Five Minutes
My mission to learn how to help people to feel happier - without pretending - started when I was young, watching my Mum struggle with depression and anxiety, from which she never really recovered.
Then, in my mid-twenties, I found myself on anti-depressants for six months, due to stress and what I later realised was #metoo in my engineering role.
Never at any stage did anyone tell me there was anything I could do to help myself, apart from counselling, which I intuitively knew wasn't the right solution for me.
I didn't want to dredge up the past to find people or problems to blame. I wanted to focus on the present and future.
It took until 2003, when I certified as an NLP Trainer (the psychology of performance) that I finally understood the link between the thoughts I was thinking, the emotions I felt, and the actions I took - and hence the results I got. I spent a decade passionately teaching people how to set themselves free from their inner critic's stranglehold on their dreams.
But there were times when even NLP wasn't working for my clients - or for myself.
I had started to study the subtle energies of the body and life, qualifying as a Reiki Master Teacher. And then I was drawn to EFT - aka 'tapping' or 'Emotional Freedom Technique'.
At first, I hated it. "Even though I feel utterly crap, and my life is falling apart, I completely love and accept myself" felt like the world's biggest lie. Because it was. So, in the middle of an unexpected divorce, with a 2-year-old and six months pregnant, I pushed on through.
And, of course, that's when the breakthroughs came. Those tough times helped me to develop strategies that I have now spent over a decade refining - strategies that reach the parts other techniques can't reach.
Over the years I discovered other forms of 'tapping' that don't require you to lie to yourself as you tap. And then I blended them with the soul-led energy work I was developing, and my inner engineer's common sense, to create Tapping-Reimagined.
It's a unique way to clear hidden blocks and release stuck emotions, without having to dive into the drama and the pain.
It took me a while to realise how powerful it was to clear everything from fear and anxiety to lifetime-long limiting beliefs, in minutes, not months, as my clients and students got breakthrough after breakthrough.
